Elementary (K-5)
The pull-out enrichment model in elementary gifted education provides students with opportunities to engage in advanced, interest-based learning outside of the regular classroom for a portion of the week.
Students are "pulled out" of their general education classrooms to work in small groups with a gifted teacher, exploring topics in greater depth and complexity. This model emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving through interdisciplinary projects, hands-on activities, and inquiry-based learning, enriching the standard curriculum and fostering a love of learning.
Middle & High School (6-12)
In the consultation model used at the middle and high school levels, gifted students stay in their general education classes, but their teachers work closely with a gifted teacher to make sure their learning needs are being met.
Instead of being pulled out for separate classes, the focus is on adjusting what happens in the classroom, like offering more challenging assignments, going deeper into topics, or moving faster through material they already know. Additionally, gifted students can be placed in higher-level courses according to their ability. This approach helps gifted students stay connected with their peers while still getting the advanced learning they need.
