Before you deliver your film, the sequence needs 'rendering' - the process of making sure that all footage, titles and effects are at full resolution.
Then we need to make sure that your film is exported at the best possible resolution and matches the sequence that you have been working on.
Rendering is the process of making sure that all of your effects, titles, colour corrections or layered videos are delivered to the technical standards that you have chosen before you export the final sequence. If you don't render a project, you may find that parts of your film look like they are presented at a lower resolution, seem unfinished or completely missing.
Other benefits of rendering include:
Reduces lag and choppy playback.
Helps you to see a more accurate version of you film before exporting.
Can help you identify potential errors that you have missed.
How to render your sequence...
Rendering is a very simple process:
On the first frame of your sequence, press 'I' on your keyboard or click 'Mark In' under the record window.
On the last frame of your sequence, press 'O' on your keyboard or click 'Mark Out' under the record window.
On the top menu bar, select 'Sequence' and then 'Render In to Out'.
EXPORTING...
Why Matching Export Settings to Your Sequence Is Important...
When exporting your project, it’s essential to match the export settings to your sequence, which should already be aligned with your original footage.
When we set up your sequences, we tried to align them as close to your original footage. Hopefully your sequences have held those setting and can now be used as we export.
Our Standard Requirements:
Resolution: 4K (3840x2160) or HD (1920x1080)
Frame Rate: 25 fps
Why Match Dimensions and Frame Rate?
Maintains image quality by avoiding unnecessary resizing or stretching.
Prevents motion issues caused by mismatched frame rates (e.g. jittery playback).
Ensures your final file is broadcast- and platform-ready, using a consistent standard across all student projects.
What Happens If Footage Doesn’t Match?
If you bring in footage that isn’t 25 fps or has a different resolution, Premiere Pro will automatically adjust it to match the sequence settings when you create or drop it into a sequence.
Important: Always make sure you’re using a sequence set to 25 fps and either HD or 4K resolution from the start. This ensures your project remains within spec, and your export will be consistent and high quality.
How to Export Using “Match Source”
Click on the 'EXPORT' tab on the top left of the screen.
CHECK:
You have the right sequence in the File Name section (centre-top of screen).
You are saving it to the right location on One Drive.
Your 'Source' & 'Output' frame sizes and FPS (frames per second) match (right of screen). This ensures your exported video uses the same frame size and frame rate as your sequence.
SUGGESTED SETTINGS:
Preset: Match Source – High Bitrate (centre-top of screen).
Format: H.264 (centre-top of screen).
Click Export to finish.
UPDATE:
If a 4K project has both 4K & HD footage in, it may struggle to export. IF this is the case:
Click CTRL+A to highlight the whole sequence.
Right click and select 'Scale To Frame Size'.
Render the sequence.
Note that this method is still being tested but at the moment it seems to work although HD footage can end up looking softer.
Alternatively:
Press CTRL+A and select the whole project.
Press CTRL+C to copy it.
Create a new HD sequence at 25 fps.
Press CTRL+V to paste your sequence into the new timeline.
Note that the step down from 4k to HD may make your project look softer.
