Preface from the Director

How does a person come back from enduring a challenging experience? How does a performer return to their stage?...

I am so glad that no person or performer here has done it alone. Together, we feel not simply that we are going back, but going forward to something even greater than before. In understanding the experiences of our past and appreciating our moments together in the present, we can work forward to a better future_

And, what better story to encourage the action we can choose to take than that of Ebenezer Scrooge? Our character emerges from isolation in order to live with kindness and generosity in a world that needs more of both…

Students have adapted their own version of the classic story, taking this new work from a blank page to a full script -- an empty stage to a complete show. In just a few weeks, these playwrights and performers have created an example of successful theatre. I am most proud, though, that theatre has helped us create an example of a supportive, kind, generous community. I consider this the true success.

To paraphrase the preface from Charles Dickens for you… We have endeavored to raise the ghost of an idea, which we hope will keep you in good humor with us and with each other. May it haunt you pleasantly.
