Writing

Welcome to 8th grade writing! We are very excited to be working with you all. In an effort to be as sustainable as possible, we are working towards making our writing portfolios entirely digital. This means that almost all of the resources you need to be successful in the classroom can be found either in Google Classroom or here, on the 8th grade website.

Welcome to 8th Grade Writing

Hello Students and Families,

Use this site to find class resources as well as ways to help you improve your writing.

Because good writers are strong readers, reading every night for a minimum of 30 minutes is mandatory for all students. Daily reading helps writers observe, analyze, and critique how good writers write. This helps improve writing skills tremendously.

The focus for writing will be as follows:

  • August - October - Writing Memoirs (generating seed ideas about small, important moments in one's life)
  • November & December - Position Papers (Informational Argumentative Writing)
  • January & February - Literary Essays/ Thematic projects (Literary Argumentative Writing)
  • March & April - Writing for High Stakes Exam, Increasing Reading Stamina
  • May - Investigative Journalism (Informational/ Narrative Writing through Photojournalism)
  • June - Resiliency Cafe (Telling our Truth Through Free writing, Poetry, and Art)
