Pro Mathematica Arte (PMA), a nonprofit educational organization that oversees the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics (BSM) program, sponsors a six-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) hosted at Haverford College, in Summer 2026. The program will run from June 22 through July 31, 2026.
Through this REU, PMA and BSM provide research opportunities for qualified mathematics majors, in support of their shared mission to promote the study of the mathematical sciences through educational exchange and cooperation. The 2026 BSM REU at Haverford College is also designed to overlap with the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM), to be held in Philadelphia from July 23 to July 30, 2026.
The summer research program will include two research groups, each supervised by a faculty advisor in collaboration with a graduate teaching assistant. Each group will consist of four students who will work together for the full six weeks toward the research goals of the project.
The two research groups will be supervised by Aaron Abrams (University of Virginia) and Joshua Sabloff (Haverford College). Brief descriptions of the planned mathematical activities for each group, along with the relevant prerequisites, are provided below.
