VCAL VET & SWL at Buckley Park College
- Thursday 20th February - Year 12s commence SWL
- Friday 13th March - Year 11s commence SWL
One of the benefits of VCAL is its emphasis on practical work-related skills and the opportunity for students to experience one industry in depth, change industries or experience multiple industries.
Part of the VCAL course includes students attending:
- Vocational Education and Training (VET) on a Wednesday
- Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) on a Friday in year 11, on a Thursday in year 12
Students can complete a VET qualification over 2 years or complete units from 2 different VETs over the 2 years. There are four work placements over the two years, each for 1 semester (20 weeks) and the student finds a new work placement for each semester. The placements can all be in the one industry or can be in multiple industries.
VCAL students in conjunction with BPC Careers Office select a VET course to study and the Careers Office enrols students in their VET course.
Students are required to source their own SWL placements and the Careers Office staff are available for advice and support.
Students and parents need to be aware that students will be required to travel independently anywhere in metropolitan Melbourne for VET and SWL.
