Model UN is an extracurricular where students get to roleplay as world leaders and diplomats. You’ll step into the shoes of a country’s delegate, join a UN committee, and debate some of the biggest issues facing the world today.
At Belleville West, our team competes twice a year at McKendree University alongside other Southern Illinois schools. It’s a chance to meet new people, test your skills, and see how global politics works in action.
In MUN, you’ll learn how the United Nations operates, but more importantly, you’ll practice skills that matter everywhere—public speaking, research, teamwork, and persuasive writing. By the end, you won’t just know more about the world—you’ll also be ready to stand up and shape it.

China 🇨🇳 A global powerhouse with the world’s largest population and second-largest economy, China plays a central role in international trade, climate policy, and security. It often emphasizes state sovereignty, development, and a strong voice for the Global South in global institutions.
Qatar 🇶🇦 Small in size but mighty in wealth, Qatar uses its natural gas resources and strategic diplomacy to “punch above its weight.” From hosting the World Cup to mediating international disputes, it positions itself as a connector in global affairs.
Sweden 🇸🇪 A leader in sustainability, peacekeeping, and human rights, Sweden is known for its neutral stance in conflicts and active role in humanitarian aid. It frequently pushes for global cooperation on climate change and international law.
Iran 🇮🇷 Located at the crossroads of the Middle East and Central Asia, Iran is known for its regional influence, energy resources, and often tense relationship with the West. Its diplomacy frequently highlights sovereignty, sanctions, and regional security concerns.
Singapore 🇸🇬 A city-state and global financial hub, Singapore is famous for its stability, trade networks, and innovative policies. It often advocates for free trade, technology, and pragmatic cooperation between nations.
