Assignments are the outside of class activities which students complete to demonstrate their knowledge and rgnaizaiton skills in AP US Government. There are three types of assignments:
Action Reports which are due at the end of each unit for both semesters
Field Experience Reflection- a two page written reflection applying classroom concepts to the field experience
Policy Projects- interactive projects in which students complete policy research and articulate their views to actual federal government officials

Action Reports are assignments which collect student notes for the unit, End of Lesson (EOL) question responses, and Formative Assessments. Action Reports are due at the end of each unit. Follow these steps to complete Action Reports:
Step One: Take Student Notes- are Google Docs in which students take notes for each lesson

Step Two: Complete End of Lesson Questions- are "big picture" questions which ask students to construct an essay response to a prompt. These should be completed after each lesson

Step Three: Submit the Action Report- Action Reports can be submitted at the end of the unit or as completed along the way (recommended)

The Judicial Branch Reflection will be a summative review of the class field experience of the federal Courts.
The reflection should:
Be a minimum of one (1) and no more than two (2) typed pages
Use the default font, font size, and margins in Google Doc
There are three parts to the reflection that students must complete:
A brief one paragraph summary of the events of the field experience
A two paragraph application of concepts. This will be a explanation of how two class concepts (separation of powers, checks and balances, judicial appointment, Federalist No 78, Commerce Clause, etc.) were evident on the visit. For this section, you must do TWO things in each paragraph:
Name and Describe the course concept
Connect the course concept to something from the field experience. Make sure to state an explicit connection.
A one paragraph reflection of the individual connection to the judicial branch created by the field experience. This might include a discussion of perfections about the federal judiciary before and after the experience.
This assignment is 50 points
The Policy Projects allow students to make real-life connections to federal govenrment officials.
The Legislative Policy Project (LPP) will require students to research a bill currently in Congress, survey public opinion on that bill topic to find out more, and then write their congressperson or Senator urging action on the bill.
This assignment is 50 points.
The Executive Policy Project (LPP) will require students to research a propsed resolution (rule) currently submitted by the bureaucracy for public comments, survey public opinion on that rule topic to find out more, and then post their own public comment urging action on the rule.
This assignment is 50 points.
