One of the exciting new activities that circulated around with the establishment of Gallatin High School back in 2020, was Speech and Debate. This event is somewhat renowned for being an extremely successful Bozeman High School after-school activity, however with the introduction of it to a new school, Speech and Debate is still finding its footing here at GHS.
However, following BHS’s 26 national qualifiers, GHS has its first-ever qualifiers — seven of them, in fact. Alison Apostle (12), Rhianna Ashcraft (12), Devon Hanley (11), Julian Staggs (11), Cole Woodward (11), Shelby Tyler (10), and Pranshu Krishna (10), are all headed off to Phoenix, Arizona this summer to compete in the National Speech and Debate competition. Make sure to congratulate these qualifiers if you see them in the halls!
While the qualifiers (and the entire team) are all very excited about this opportunity, traveling to another state requires transport, housing, and food, as well as additional costs. Therefore, the Speech and Debate leadership group and coaches have been working tirelessly to fundraise enough money to send these students off to nationals, but the team needs your help. Some ideas raised during fundraising planning were duct-taping teachers to a wall during a lunch period, setting up a bake sale, looking into a fundraising night (TBA), as well as creating a direct donation page. If you’re interested in helping out the team, make sure to keep an eye out for these exciting events coming soon.
