I’m sure that at some point from someone or somewhere you have heard or seen this quote. It is in fact the quote that brought 36-year-old Emory Andrew Tate III to fame. He became the most Googled man in 2022 in a matter of weeks and instantly created armies of haters and followers. Soon after gaining virality, many youtubers began to make videos on him because it brought them views and gave them something to talk about. These videos often took his clips out of context and introduced him in such a way that would spark controversy. As he grew, he started gaining the attention of news stations and even some European politicians. Tate’s name quickly started becoming associated with the word misogyny -- hatred towards women.
But who is Andrew Tate, and what is the message that millions of young men around the world have begun to follow? Andrew Tate was born in Washington, D.C. on December 1st, 1986. His father, Emory Tate was a U.S. Air Force veteran who is widely considered to be one of the best African American chess players of all time, having won the U.S. Armed Forces Chess Championship five times and defeating chess grandmasters in over 80 matches. Tate’s mother was from Luton, England. Following his parents divorce in 1997, Tate’s mother took him and his younger brother, Tristan, back to Luton where they were raised in homeless shelters and community homes; Tate attributes much of his success to this hard upbringing. Andrew Tate took up kickboxing soon after graduating from high school. He would go on to hold a very impressive record with 76 wins and only nine losses, while winning four world titles.
Andrew and Tristan Tate lived together throughout this time and Tristan would become very successful at kickboxing as well with one european title. Despite this success, both have spoken about the lack of income they made during their time kickboxing and both had aspirations to make more money. They made their first $1,000,000 by starting a webcam business where he organized and set up sexualized webcams that men could pay for to talk to a woman. The men would send money and both Tate and the women that worked for him would profit. He later significantly downsized his business as he realized the damaging nature of the business.
It was during this time, when Tate started to make money, that he also created an online presence for himself. A small but loyal group of about a quarter million began to listen to his advice and stories, tuning into his livestream podcasts. His lavish lifestyle filled with beautiful women, fast cars and yachts was very attractive to young men. This is when Tate started his online school known as the Real World. For the price of $50 a month, Tate offered money making classes and methods taught by other millionaires. When questioned about the high price, he would simply say that it does not compare to the money people make inside of his school. His claims would later be backed by him showing hundreds of examples in his videos and podcasts of people making upwards of $5,000 from his courses.
Tate is a marketing genius and was able to increase the size of his online school by having people upload short clips of his podcast and invite them into the Real World using a link, Tate would financially compensate people for having their specific links used to join. These short form videos started to go viral in early 2022, and by mid 2022 Andrew Tate became a household name and, more importantly, the most Googled man in the world. However, this newfound fame wouldn’t be all good for him as the major tech corporations didn’t like what he had to say. His philosophy directly contradicted that of Google and Meta and he was quickly banned from Instagram, Facebook and Youtube. The major news stations of the world quickly jumped on the bandwagon of hating Andrew Tate, branding him as misogynistic and racist. Clips were taken out of context, while satirical comments and tweets were shown as serious comments. Because of this mainstream backlash, the average person looked at him negatively with no real reason.
However, those who regularly followed him understood his message. He taught men to be traditional, religious, to work out and gain independence through wealth. He drew people away from drugs and vaping; one of his most famous quotes is “You ain’t got time to vape, you gotta do push ups.”
One of the biggest attacks on Tate is his alleged denial of depression. Many like to point out his quote that “Depression isn’t real,” but they fail to point out what follows as he explains that depression always has to come from something, you don’t just magically become sad. You have to locate the source of your depression and destroy it, and move on with life rather than dwell upon its tests.
Millions of his followers can attest to the fact that since taking his word to heart they have been in the best physical and mental condition than they ever have in their entire lives. He helps men find and defeat their insecurities. Rates of suicide in America have grown steadily, and 3 of every 4 are committed by men. In America in 1900, the percentage of marriages that ended in divorce was less than 1%;by 1950 it was just less than 20% and today 40-50% of marriages end in divorce.
Andrew Tate believes that there is a serious flaw in modern relationships and gender roles and is working to return the world to a more traditional style to save mental health and relationships. Some say that the more traditional style Tate vouches for is limiting towards women in a relationship. While he does suggest the style of the stay-at-home mom, he also demands that the man hold up his end of the deal. The woman should not have to do house work and take care of the children if the man is not providing for their needs - the hard work goes both ways. While this method will not work for everyone, it has worked for many over the years.
Some would say that spreading this rhetoric to young men is dangerous and will set back women. Society has convinced women that their lives will be fulfilled primarily by working hard and pursuing their careers. However, since this idea has become mainstream, antidepressant use among women has been on a steady increase. In fact, antidepressant use has increased by more than two thirds in the last two decades. Clearly both genders are unsatisfied, so why would someone trying to change that be shut down? It’s fairly simple: the nationwide pharmacies profit off of this antidepressant use, while big tech is exploiting people’s needs for dopamine as they spend hours a day scrolling through Tik Tok.
Andrew Tate is speaking out about this and being punished for it. In early 2022 he was jailed on charges he strongly contests. He was then arrested again in late 2022, under the same charges where he spent far too long in prison under terrible conditions with little to no evidence against him. Tate was just recently released under house arrest after the U.S. Embassy and government of the UAE, two countries in which Tate holds citizenship in, came to his support.
The dominant culture sweeping over the western world is damaging to many people. The people at the top won’t try and fix it because they profit from it. With all the attacks towards him, it’s easy to forget all the other terrible influences on the youth of today. You have rappers speaking about drug use, rape and gang violence while they twerk on Satan in their viral music videos while promiscuity and teens wearing revealing clothing can be found all over TikTok. Why are people like this getting off the hook and even being pushed by the algorithms, while Andrew Tate can’t go a day without the mainstream culture taking shots at him? More people need to take people like Andrew and Tristan Tate seriously, and turn to the traditional way of life that lasted for so many years.
