After months of easter eggs being dropped by the mastermind, Taylor Swift has finally announced 1989 (Taylor’s Version) to be released on October 27th, 2023. From her release of the music video “I Can See You” featuring Taylor Lautner, Joey King, and Presley Cash to one of her VMA winner music videos “Karma,” there were too many coincidences lining up and Swift’s fans were catching every one of them.
As some of you may know, Swift gave her blood, sweat, and tears for this release to happen and her fans are celebrating like mad women. It’s been a long time coming with Swift’s career, and re-recording her masters has been a feat many thought she would not be able to pull off. Nevertheless, Swift revealed the rerelease of her fifth album through one of her shows in the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Swift came out on stage multiple times in a blue version of her usual attire, the blue ‘Enchanted Dress’ being the most impressive one. Blue is the color normally associated with this album of hers, as the style is used as a reference to the timeless 1989 (Taylor’s Version) album.
But this fearless superstar goes above and beyond, promising her fans five never-before-heard songs added to the album. Yet again, Swift had an even crazier interactive plan for her fans. In order to unlock a message from Taylor, fans had to solve 33 million word puzzles collectively on Google to be given the names of the new song, also called songs from the vault. The titles of these news songs include, “Is It Over Now?,” “Suburban Legends,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Say Don’t Go,” and “Slut!.” Gallatin High Junior, Brooke Hernandez, expresses her excitement for these songs, saying, “I’m so excited for the vault tracks since [Swift] said they are the best ones yet!” While some may be bewildered that Swift could even get a multi-billion business such as Google to plan this with her, this is nothing new for old fans as they know Swift's tactics all too well. The amount of influence Swift has economically, culturally, and intimately gives her a unique opportunity to establish a fandom that creates a culture of her own and brings people together, because we all know it’s nice to have a friend.
If you thought Swift would end here, there is yet another invisible string Swifites have been following. The only albums Swift has yet to re-record and own are Reputation and Taylor Swift, her self-titled debut album. Long story short, Swifites have many theories about when Swift will re-release Reputation (Taylor’s Version) and the detail is crazy. So it goes, some speculate the album will be announced soon and re-released in February of 2024 as there is an easter egg within Swift’s music video, “Karma.” But until we hear it directly from Swift herself, the rumors remain to be sweet nothing.
Not to be mean, but just like Swift herself, I have hidden easter eggs throughout this article relating to Swift’s songs and lyrics, excluding the title. There are a total of 22 references, so keep your eyes open and good luck finding them all.
