As snowflakes are falling and temperatures are dropping, it is evident that winter is officially here. With that said, so is the 2022-2023 ski season. With the lifts running at Big Sky and Bridger Bowl, the excitement and thrill for the season is brewing.
As many of us are involved in the local ski and snowboard community, there are a number of upcoming events that we should be aware of and excited for. For example, on January 21, Big Sky will be hosting the USASA Slopestyle and Rail Jam. This competition is a fun and exciting event that allows local skiers and snowboarders to show their talent to the community. Meanwhile, on January 20, Bridger Bowl will be having the annual MSU Bobcat Ski Day. Celebrating the MSU team, there will be discounted lift tickets as well. Overall, between our two ski resorts there are many other upcoming events that you should stay in touch with as winter progresses.
Along with all of the excitement, there are some safety precautions that all students should be aware of. With large amounts of snow, comes dangerous conditions. Whether it’s avalanches, tree wells, or other dangerous hazards, here are some things you should know to stay safe this ski season. First, always have a beacon when skiing in avalanche terrain; practice and know how to use it. Secondly, always ski with a partner. Third, ski smart and aware. Fourth, be aware of tree wells. Lastly, ski to ski another day!
These are only some of the safety precautions to consider when you are skiing or snowboarding. Overall, it’s pretty clear that the stoke is here for this ski/snowboard season. Just remember: stay safe and have fun.
