This is a column dedicated to recognizing students who represent the GRIT characteristics our school strives for, and we hope this will inspire others to give back to our school community. For every issue, we will ask two teachers to nominate two students each that they have seen positively affecting their peers and being a good influence in the school.
For this month’s edition, the two teachers chosen to recognize students are Ms. Geissler and Mr. Biosoti.
Junlong He – He is new to Gallatin High this year and is still learning English. He’s in my 10th grade English class that I co-teach with Mrs. Nutt, and his focus and positive attitude are steadfast. He works well with others and is always eager to practice reading aloud. He’s excelled and grown in many ways this year, and I can’t see where he is at the end of the year.
Ellie Iszler – Ellie is a junior in the English III Honors/APUSH combo class I teach with Mr. Kusak. EVERY day, you will see Ellie reading a book whenever there’s a break or she’s finished with her work. Her appetite for stories is insatiable, and it’s admirable to see a student slipping into an actual book as opposed to a screen. With that, she’s a hard worker, is always friendly, and works well with others. She’s already read a plethora of works this year, so if you need a book recommendation, Ellie’s the person to ask.
Nathan Nguyen – Nathan certainly embodies and carries the message of GRIT with him everyday. Whether he is leading the tennis team or crushing the ceramics studio, he provides a top notch example of what GRIT truly means. During class he engages with the teacher, shows respect for all, includes fellow students, and especially works together with everyone involved. I look forward to seeing how Nathan can bring his will of GRIT into the collegiate world. Good luck!
Nicholas Cialella – After having Nic for two semesters, I was able to witness a strong sense of what it really means to have GRIT on our campus. Nic has a wonderful balance of having fun and joking around, while still getting it done in the studio. I am always elated to have Nic stroll through my classroom doors, as I know it is going to be a great day. I am excited to see Nic take on senior year and show the rest of the Raptors what GRIT really means. Have fun!
