My mission is to cultivate and lead a community of educators who not only reflect on and share effective instructional practices but lead innovation in educational policies and practices.
Throughout the course of my career, I hope to move from educator, to teacher leader and mentor, to educational policy influencer. I hope to gain experience in innovative and effective pedagogical practices that could lead to changing current practices and restructuring the public school system. In an ideal world, student achievement would be measured by holistic processes such as authentic problem-solving, presentations and portfolios. Instruction would incorporate core skills and competencies but the skills and competencies that students are expected to develop would change as they achieve each benchmark, rather than as they age. This would most likely mean moving toward grade-less schools, collaborative, integrated teaching processes, and flexible grouping.
