What do I need for Orchestra?

Joining the Orchestra is so much fun! We want to make sure that your child has the best experience that they can in Orchestra. To do this, please make sure that your child has everything that need for class by Monday, September 11th, 2017. We will begin orchestra classes this week.

Orchestra Supply List

_ Instrument in playable condition

Please be careful about purchasing a string instrument that is not going to work for your child. There are frequently string instruments (mostly violins) that are for sale cheep online. These instruments are frequently unplayable, and will not serve your child well. Our local music stores have quality instruments that will work well for beginner students. There are also a variety of online stores that work well for renting/purchasing strings instruments on our Links page.

A great place to find an instrument is the "Bozeman Friends of Music Instrument Swap". This is a place where students sell their used instruments from years past. Bozeman strings teachers check all instruments and make sure that they are playable before accepting them into the swap. The swap will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Bozeman High School's old library.

_ Bow - make sure that the bow is appropriate for your instrument

_ Shoulder Rest - violins and violas only

_ New Directions for Strings Book 1 - please get the book for your child's instrument

_ Rock Stop or End Pin Stop - for cellos and basses

_ Rosin - please do not scratch rosin.

_ Music Stand - There are a variety of stands that students can use. This is very important for practicing at home.
