Rolling Library DIY

Exciting Makerspace collaboration between the following libraries:

Bulverde/Spring Branch Library

Patrick Heath Memorial Library

Blanco Library

Johnson City Public Library

Tye Preston Memorial Library

New Braunfels Public Library

Funded by a generous grant from the

U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services through the

Texas State Library and Archives Commission

Every quarter, each library will receive a rotating collection of DIY equipment. Initially, staff from the Bulverde/Spring Branch Library will train participating libraries on the equipment and provide programming ideas for the equipment such as guided DIY workshops which will progress into more advanced, autonomous use of the equipment and a network of colleagues to share expertise.

When it is time for the libraries to rotate, BSB Library staff will move the equipment but staff from participating libraries will be responsible for training the next library using the equipment. We will all keep notes on what worked, what didn't and other issues we may have had with the equipment.

  • Provide access to our community members for equipment they currently do not have access to
  • Help community teens and adults enhance their business and workforce development, including entrepreneurial endeavors
    • Encourage creativity, problem solving, and collaboration
    • Reduce fear of failure in problem solving and encouraging creative solutions
    • Participants learn:
        • that there may not be one "right" answer
        • that collaboration is important and inspires teamwork
        • they can figure things out by tinkering and playing
