Course Overview

Art 1 is an introductory art class in which we will explore a variety of media (drawing, painting, etc.) and examine a variety of art styles. Throughout the semester, we will utilize critical thinking skills while learning about art history, art-making processes, writing reflections, and discussing modern topics in visual art.  This project-based class will help you become a better artist by taking risks, problem-solving a variety of artistic situations, and experimenting with a variety of media. This class is perfect for all students, from the visual arts novice to the art school-bound.

The 2023-2024 school year marks my fifteenth year as a teacher. In addition to teaching Visual Arts I also teach Yearbook Journalism and have a strong passion for creativity.

I have two sons, Rocco who is 7 years old and Vaughn who is 4. My wife, Brenna, is the art teacher at Frances Meeks Elementary School. We also have two dogs, Moby and Shane, and are a family that is always on the go.

I have always been a creative person and engaged in the arts. In high school I often found my classmates asking me for my suggestions and assistance when it came to their artwork. I found great joy in sharing this interest with others as well as helping them. This is when I decided that I wanted to be an art teacher.

Some of the things that I love most about art are the interdisciplinary connections and how it is interwoven into every facet of our lives and culture.
