Chemistry Course Overview
Chemistry is a branch of science that studies the composition, structure, properties, and changes of matter. Matter can be anything that has mass and occupies space, encompassing both substances we encounter in everyday life (such as water, air, and metals) and those only visible through powerful scientific instruments (such as molecules and atoms). Chemistry is referred to as the "central science" because it connects and intersects with other branches of science, such as physics, biology, geology, and environmental science. It provides the foundation for understanding the world at the molecular level and is crucial in fields like medicine, materials science, pharmacology, and biochemistry. Overall, Chemistry plays a crucial role in our understanding of the natural world and provides the foundation for developing new materials, medicines and technologies to improve our lives.
AP Chemistry Course Overview
AP Chemistry is a rigorous, college-level course designed to deepen your understanding of the fundamental principles of chemistry through a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on laboratory experience. Throughout the year, you'll explore topics such as atomic structure, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, electrochemistry, and more. The course emphasizes scientific inquiry, data analysis, and problem-solving, helping you develop the skills necessary to think like a chemist. Expect to engage in lab investigations, practice writing chemical reactions and calculations, and apply your knowledge to real-world scenarios. By the end of the course, you'll be well prepared to take the AP Chemistry Exam and pursue further studies in science or related fields.
About Me
I am starting my 8th year teaching at RHHS and LOVE what I do. Prior to teaching, I was an administrator in higher education and decided to switch careers and move to Savannah with my husband. We have two basset hounds that keep us busy and two children that have been very busy getting married recently! I love going fishing or settling down with a good book.
