End of term
(26-28 June 2019)
Sadly, it's the end of term for Central Brussels Scouts, but we've had three great events to mark the end of the year and the moving up of Beavers to Cubs and Cubs to Scouts. We'd like to give a big thank you to all our volunteers, who have given so much time and energy to our scouts, both leading the groups and on our executive committee. Sadly, it's time to say good bye to several of our leaders: Robin, Martin and Tessa - you'll be sorely missed! Daniele is also leaving us, but not to go to far - he'll be working alongside 1st Brussels leaders with the local Explorers unit.
On 26 June, Cook Beavers met for the final time with their current leaders in Parc Cinquantenaire for a family picnic. We said a fond farewell to Tessa and Martin who have been leading them until now - as from September, they will be led by Sam and Lelia, who are currently running Shackleton Beavers, as we are merging the two colonies for the moment.
We had a joint session for Newton Cubs, Sherrington Cubs and Tonga Scouts on Thursday, 27 June, in Parc Woluwe. As well as the moving up ceremonies for quite a few of our cubs who are moving up in September to both our Scout groups, this was also an opportunity to play a "wide" game designed by the scouts, which had the cubs running around collecting mini-figures, and a picnic. Our two Cub Packs are also merging in September, and will be meeting on Wednesdays at Cinquantenaire.
Our final (yes, there were a lot!) end-of-term activity was the annual celebration by the users of the Pavilion in Parc Cinquantenaire (where we have three of our "sections"). We had a stand explaining about Central Brussels Scouts and mingled with the other users of the site, including a tai chi group, zumba for seniors, and a gospel choir. We also had a final moving up ceremony for a couple of beavers who were moving up to cubs in September.
