BRSU Cell Phone Policy
Over the last few years, our principals and teachers have witnessed the ever growing presence of cell phones in our schools. Each year, policies were put in place to minimize the disruption to the educational environment. But it was never enough. Social media, gaming, secret texting, and the availability of constant communication pose a dangerous distraction to both teaching and learning.
After much serious discussion over the summer, our leadership team of principals, faculty and staff concluded the following:
Beginning in this 2019-2020 school year:
- Students will not be allowed to have their cell phones on their person during the school day.
- Cell phones must remain turned off in the owner’s locker until the final bell rings at the end of the school day.
For students who break the cell phone rule, consequences are as follows:
First Offense: Cell phone/personal device confiscated, given to the principal for the day. The phone will be returned to the student at the end of the school day. (At TDS, we will give the phone to Tia or Kelly in the main office.)
Second Offense: Cell phone/personal device confiscated, given to the principal for the day and there will be a call to parents. The phone is returned to the student after the final bell.
Third Offense: Cell phone/personal device confiscated, given to the principal for the day, followed by a phone call home. The phone will not be returned to the student. A parent must pick up the cell phone from the principal’s office.
Parents! There is an exciting new mobile application for our student information system ALMA.
Here is the link for the latest software update for mobile telephones. If you are new to our district, have never activated your account or just need a refresher, please visit our ALMA page located under the parent/guardian tab above.
