The classroom already stinks of action.
Warmups have become a usual ritual. We juggle, pass, bounce, dance, walk, and even sit. We talk about our weeks and about how to juggle better. Outside it's raining and Kendrick Lamar is playing. When we partner up and talk about what we're working on, we also ask for feedback. We pack up everything in that tiny suitcase and take a walk. The walk also leads to what is usual for us now. Finding games, focusing our eyes, stretching, and making sounds. Everyone ends up becoming a plane...?
Today is about understanding our transitions and structures for the showcase, and becoming aware of audience. We start with the entrance routine. A lot of songs develop as each clown introduces themselves--"Alive & 75," "Cake & Steak," "Entertain," "Problem," and more. We transition to the Wonder song, each clown having their own wonders.
The ensemble takes a beat to write down the structures of the entrance section so that we can each remember and know what we just came up with together.
We practice the goodbye song--well, we just wing it. We go in circles and circles (literally) and end it all with one big shout--"We... are... the Booboisie!" noses off, bow, exit.
Then we see what everyone's got, in the groups that were formed and the songs that were started weeks ago. When Mildred and Canoly sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, it's about just being themselves in a bold and beautiful way. The nose does the rest. When Maximus and Kamanja sing Shine Bright Like a Diamond, they're amplifying the lack of desire to hold on to something, but also giving themselves something to do.
The bones and beats tonight were good because everyone's state is good.
Next Monday, we'll be at the theatre at 6:30. We will stay together, trust that it will fly. We'll have an audience that'll soup us. Get ready for soemthing to go wrong. It's all alive anyways.
