Chinook Salmon provide their spawned-out bodies each fall to giant Sitka Spruce trees, in the largest single pulse of “food” for these arboreal forests, providing deep-sea N15 nitrogen molecules to these mighty beings rooted in a landscape that gets stripped of nutrients by 10 feet of annual rainfall each year.
