Piano Birthday #3

We gathered around the piano on Tuesday to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the project, and the piano's 3rd year of outdoor life. Students chatted over cupcakes and marveled at the spring-like weather that made the recent blizzard feel like months, rather than just weeks, ago. The feet of snow that had covered the lawn and made some sidewalks impassable was quickly receding. Spring is certainly on its way!

"Happy birthday, dear piano! It is my wish this year that people (and maybe critters) find new ways to make sound with you. :)" --Ruby Erickson
"Happy Birthday Piano-- you tell me to keep singing as much as possible!" --Anonymous
"Happy Birthday Piano (de)composition! The piano installation for me was a return to music, and a capsule of memories. I'm in Thailand now, and I often talk about Piano (de)composition. The piano taught me different ways music can connect with people. As I watched people make something beautiful with every stage of the piano's life, it also taught me that people are able to adapt to change in amazing ways. I'm truly grateful that I was able to join this project, and my view on music continues to expand." --Amy Sabpisal
"Happy Birthday Piano!!! Very grateful for all the memories we’ve made over the years and how you’ve lasted longer than anyone’s expectations you resilient courageous soul. This project means a lot to me because of how it has illustrated the passage of time so potently, and it’s represented in many ways the growth of my experience at Brown. I was a first-year at Brown when it was first installed, and here I am, three years later, about to graduate. It’s been an absolute privilege being a part of this journey and I am excited for the future!" --Xavier Dargan
