Today marks my first visit to the piano since returning from my dissertation research trip this past spring semester. The summer term has officially started, and campus is quieter than usual. The piano is still under the trees, more weathered and decomposed than when I left in December last year. I am surprised to see that the lid has completely fallen apart, and the remaining pieces have been carefully piled on top of the strings. The legs have sunk further in the ground, and the pedals are now completely buried.

Weather: partly sunny, 81°F
The layers of wood continue to separate.
Pieces of wood from the lid, music desk, and the keyboard cover have been collected on top of the strings.
Without the lid, more debris from the trees has accumulated inside the piano.
