Afterlife Conference

On April 5-6, the department of Religious Studies at Brown University hosted a graduate student conference around the theme of "afterlife." Graduate students from across the country convened in Providence over the course of these two days to discuss their research, within religious studies as well as other disciplines. I shared a paper on this outdoor piano, reflecting on how people have responded and interacted with the piano over the course of its time outdoors, which I suggested that we think of as a kind of afterlife for the instrument.
At the end of the conference, I visited the piano with several other conference attendees, including Josh and Charlie, two graduate students from UChicago's Divinity School. They had a chance to play and explore the site in person before heading back to Chicago the next day.
Days in place: 415
Weather: rainy, 46°F
Charlie and Josh try out the piano.
The lid has split into two large pieces.
A creative response? Someone has left this broken tennis racket in the tree next to the piano.
