Piano (de)composition is a long-term installation organized by Brown Ph.D. candidate Devanney Haruta. The project features a piano that is located outdoors, exposed to the elements and open for public interaction. Visitors are invited to play and engage with the piano to observe its changing materials and sound over time.

Calling all artists! We are seeking proposals for artworks that celebrate the life and death of Piano (de)composition. This fall 2026, the installation will come to an end, and the piano will be deconstructed into pieces for artworks that incorporate these scrap materials. We invite proposals for 2D and 3D physical artworks, as well as live performance works that celebrate Piano (de)composition and the intersecting themes of music, nature, life & death, and musical materials.
