STEAM Lab

Hello! Welcome to the Brooklyn Middle School STEAM website. My name is Mr. Gabriel, and I am excited to be starting my second full year, and first year as the STEAM Lab teacher. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.

In the past, students in Grades 5 through 8 gained familiarity and productivity within G-Suite for Education. Students received instruction in the functionality of Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, and Drawing in a project-based setting.

This year, students are going to be transitioning to more STEAM focus. This year all students in their core STEAM Lab class will be learning about the Problem Solving Process. Students in 6th grade will use HTML and CSS to design their own website, 7th graders will use JavaScript, and 8th graders will have a choose as a class between HTML or JavaScript. All students will continue to practice their keyboarding skills.

Flex block/enrichment will be a chance for students to dig deeper into STEAM topics. This includes continued exposure in block based coding, 3D Design, and/or Multimedia depending on the grade.

Lastly, STEAM Pace will be entering year 2. Students will practice the Engineering Design Process and understand more about the interdisciplinary concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math! Applications will be in the cafeteria and in room B12.

The focus of this course is to provide students with the skills needed to be successful at Brooklyn Middle School, high school, college, and career. Class curriculum is connected to International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards, CSTA Computer Science Standards, and Common Core Standards.
