In their final year, BA(Hons) trainee generalist primary school teachers at Oxford Brookes University complete a short cultural placement with one of our cultural partners. These experiences support trainees in learning about the logistics of taking pupils off site and helps them to develop a rationale for incorporating a school visit into a wider unit of cross-curricular work which encourages pupils to be creative critical thinkers.
After attending their cultural placement, trainees design their own sequence of cross-curricular lessons based around a class visit to a cultural venue of their choice. They also prepare a presentation to communicate to professional colleagues, parents and/or pupils the educational value of the visit, explaining how it enhances learning back at school.
The following examples of slide presentations produced by trainees were submitted for formal assessment. Click on them to expand (Please note that some links embedded in the presentations are inactivate).
