Principal Lecturer Student Experience
I have worked at Oxford Brookes University since 2004 as a Senior Lecturer in Art Education, and more recently as a Principal Lecturer in Student Experience. I was the subject leader of the Secondary Art/Design PGCE from 2004-2012, and since 2006 lead the MA in Education: Artist Teacher Practice. Research interests focus on creative pedagogies in schools and higher education which lead to transformative professional practices, visual methodologies, and policy in art and design education. I am the President for the National Society for Education in Art and Design (NSEAD) and am a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Art, Craft and Design in Education. Through my NSEAD work I chair an Initial Teacher Education Special Interest Group who have successfully lobbied the Department for Education to implement 9K bursaries for secondary art and design teacher trainees 2020-21. I am one of eleven academics profiled on the Research Impact at the UK Parliament site, which provides comprehensive information for researchers and universities on how they can engage with Parliament.
