Welcome:

Welcome to the MPSM website, hosted by the STEAM research group based in the School of Education at Oxford Brookes University. The purpose of this site is to provide resources for teachers and staff working within cultural spaces such as museums, to support the collaborative development of learning experiences for children within such. Much of the content on this site was initially developed during a pilot study for the MPSM project, conducted by King's College London (KCL) in 2016, and headed by Wendy James (Garbers & James Architects). In 2020, members of the STEAM research group at Oxford Brookes took on the mantle of curator of existing materials, with a brief to further develop school - cultural setting partnerships to enrich children's learning.

Content and Navigation:

What you will find on this site:

  • A summary of the original MPSM pilot: the rationale for school-museum partnerships, project team and final evaluation report

  • An archive of blog posts from the original MPSM pilot study, outlining case studies of school-cultural setting partnerships. These are organised in two ways; chronologically, and by theme. Additionally, there is a search function to help you navigate to the information you want!

  • The MPSM toolkit, compiled by Heritage Insider as part of the MPSM pilot, includes the formal evaluation of the study, planning tools and possible curricular links with particular spaces, to help you plan your own School-Cultural Space Partnership

  • Rationale for, and benefits of, collaboration between schools and cultural spaces as part of the learning otusie the classroom (LoTC) manifesto, for example Hood's (2017) review of relevant literatures relating to cultural education and museum-school partnerships

  • An additional information page offering inspiration and best practice tips
