For my Personal Project, I took a metal smithing course over the summer and learned how to manipulate sterling silver to form rings. I bought the equipment and materials that I didn’t already have and then designed and made my own at home, taking the skills I learned from the course and applying them to my project. My goal was to handcraft and design a variety of rings and learn new skills and information in something that I am interested in.
The first ring I made and the one I made in the course I took. Garnet stone set in the middle.
Shaping the sterling silver rod to make a ring like shape with flat and half round pliers.
An infinity design and one of the most challenging.
Soldering the ring with a small hand held torch to make the band complete.
A pair of rings that are widths to complement each other and with one having a small gap.
Placing the ring into a warmed pickle solution to clean the ring.
A textured ring with two indents on each side of the ring to add interest.
Sizing the rings with a ring mandrel and a small hammer.
