His love for orchestral percussion was ignited in 1998 when, at the age of 11, he performed under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle with an orchestra of nearly 4,000 players - a performance which still holds the ‘Guinness’ World Record for the world’s largest orchestra. Since then he has built up a wealth of experience in orchestral playing amassing an extremely wide range of repertoire. To date his UK orchestral experience includes the BBC Philharmonic and The Halle, as well as Victorian Opera, Musica Nova and Skipton Camerata. Alongside his professional commitments he has been very proud to have held the position of Principal Percussion for the Symphony Orchestra in his hometown of Bolton from 2006 - 2016. He continues to play in a professional capacity in the Middle East region, holding playing positions with both the UAE National Symphony Orchestra and Arabian Philharmonic Orchestra.
During his career Daniel has played under acclaimed conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Juanjo Mena, Richard Bonynge, James MacMillan and Marcello Rota, and performed with world-leading classical music artists including Peter Donohoe, Jennifer Pike, Jose Carreras and Andrea Bocelli. His professional show credits include Les Miserables, Into the Woods and Miss Saigon in the UK, and the international touring production of Broken Wings at Dubai Opera. As a percussionist he has performed on professionally recorded orchestral music for Dutton Epoch and Naxos.
Aside from orchestral music his playing experience encompasses a wide range of genres, including Brass Band, Concert Band, Big Band, Funk & Soul Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Trio, Samba and African Drums. His work in these areas has led him to perform at major festivals such as Bestival, Isle of Wight Festival and Kendal Calling, and to be featured on BBC 6Music with Marc Riley.
After graduating in 2009, Daniel worked as a Percussion Tutor and Curriculum Music Teacher for the Greater Manchester Music Hub, and after completing his PGCE he relocated to GEMS Wellington Primary School (GWPS), Dubai in 2016. He spent five years at GWPS and was made Head of Music in 2019. Daniel is currently the Primary Music Teacher at British School Muscat, having taken up the post in 2021.
Daniel enjoys teaching Drum Kit, Tuned Percussion and Timpani. His students have had success at all examination levels from Grades 1 - 8, and some of his students have gone on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).
