G.R.S.M. Dip.RCM (Teach) graduated from the Royal College of Music, London in 1992. In his final year at the college he was awarded the overall Brass Prize for his principal study, the French horn, and was also a finalist in the Royal Overseas League Competition in 1995.

On leaving college he started his career as a freelance horn player and worked intensively with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle. Following a trial for a full-time position with the orchestra he started working with many orchestras in London including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, London Mozart Players, European Chamber Opera Orchestra, British Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Queen’s Hall Orchestra. During this period he also played in many West End shows including Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, Cats, Oklahoma, Passion, Martin Guerre, Oliver, Evita, West Side Story and Jesus Christ Superstar. Full time positions in shows have included ‘Pickwick’ with Sir Harry Secombe and Roy Castle, ‘Carmen Jones’, ‘Mack and Mabel’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Livingstone’, ‘Hard Times’, ‘A Little Night Music’, and ‘On your Toes’, all in London’s West End.
His professional performances have embraced music of all styles including appearances with some of the leading names in the music world. These include Rod Stewart, Shirley Bassey, Howard Keel, Elaine Paige, Michael Ball, The Four Tops, Petula Clarke, Paul Young, Michael Bolton, The Moody Blues, Travis, Bryn Terfel, Andrea Bocelli and Pavarotti.
In the studio environment Dan has recorded music for film and television, including music for the BBC ‘Natural World’, ‘Balamory’ and ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ series. Classical recordings with many orchestras, including CBSO, NQHO and CSO. Popular and Jazz albums include sessions for ‘Travis’, ‘Ben and Jason’, ‘Shirley Bassey’, ‘Elaine Paige’, ‘Michael Ball’ and the Matthew Herbert Big Band.
Since leaving London Dan spent three years as principal horn of the Cyprus State Orchestra before moving to Abu Dhabi as Head of Instrumental Studies at the British School Al Khubairat.. In 2006 he moved to Oman to take up the post of Horn Tutor at the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra, and joined the British School in 2015 where he is currently Director of Music.
He continues to perform regularly, both locally and internationally; Recent engagements include Dame Shirley Bassey, Michael Ball, Andrea Bocelli, Czech National Symphony Orchestra and Hacienda Classical at Dubai Opera House, and is principal Horn Dorset Opera, UAE National Symphony Orchestra, and St. Endellion summer festival. In Muscat he is founder and director of Muscat Brass and has performed at the ROHM with the Kammerorchester Collegium Musicum Frankfurt
