Adrian Clifford studied for BA (Hons) in music at Dartington College of Arts and graduated from the University of Illinois with an M. Mus. in Composition, later going on train as a teacher at the University of London, Goldsmiths’ College.

Adrian is a very experienced teacher having run music departments in secondary schools in the UK and Oman. Many of his former students have gone on to study at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and many other leading universities and conservatoires in the UK and beyond and are now top musicians in their own right. His musical interests are diverse, from 70’s rock to baroque and he has a particular interest in music from other cultures. He has run many workshops and ensembles, from choirs and orchestras, to jazz bands, gamelan, steel bands, samba and smaller ensembles. He was invited to run gamelan workshops by the Royal Opera House Muscat, an instrument he has a particular affinity with having performed on gamelans all over the world including for the Indonesian embassy in Muscat.
Adrian is a singer, pianist and composer For many years he worked as a tenor soloist and has sung most of the major oratorio roles. He is a founder member of the National Youth Choirs of Wales and Great Britain, has sung with many of the UK’s leading professional choirs performing under many eminent conductors; Claudio Abbado and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the BBC Proms, Roger Norrington in concerts in the Vienna Musikverein and many others. More recent engagements have included the final night of the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen with the choir Serendipity and José Carreras and work with the eminent American composer Eric Whitacre in the Wales Millennium Centre. He has conducted many orchestras, community choirs and operatic societies and has worked as a session singer and performed on several albums that have topped the charts, most recently with the Scottish rock band Twin Atlantic.
His first study at Dartington was the piano and he still plays regularly. Adrian is a practising composer having written musicals performed in schools, including The Mad Hatter and Alice and he recently wrote music as part of a major exhibition at the Royal Opera House Muscat. He’s previously written and directed music for productions of The Tempest, A Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Hamlet. Other works have been performed professionally and well received all over the UK, USA, France and Sweden. In addition, Adrian has musically directed many musical theatre productions including; Hot Mikado, Fame, Honk, Grease, Annie get your gun, We Will Rock You, Les Miserables, My Fair Lady, Annie, Oliver and many more. He also dabbles in the bass guitar and has played in many function bands as a singer, bass player and keyboard player.
