Penn State Requirements

  • The Penn State application opens on September 1st and is a rolling admission application.
  • It is recommended you apply by November 30th -two options to submit application
  • There are now two ways to complete the application: My Coalition application (mycoalition.org) or penn state profile (the regular application through the website)
  • SAT scores need to be sent from college board only
  • 2/3 of the application for acceptance is based on high school record
  • 1/3 of the application for acceptance is based on standardized test scores (no super scores) **for SAT or ACT
  • To be accepted to Main Campus admissions is looking for a GPA within 3.55-3.97 ***(weight GPA only)
    • To be accepted to main campus admissions is looking for 1230-1410 SAT scores
    • To be accepted to main campus admissions is looking for 27-31 ACT scores
  • PSU will not require transcripts from counselors unless the student is attending PSU.

**only final transcripts for those attending by July 15th

  • Academic records will be Self reported by students
  • Temple and common app will eventually do self reporting
  • PSU Admissions will need copy of 12th grade schedule
  • Class rank and GPA needed
  • FAFSA should be done by February 15th for Penn State- awarding happens in March
  • There is a separate application for Schreyers Honors College (deadline is December 20th).
  • There are two "Spend a Fall" days on November 16th and 17th (a minimum of 3.0 GPA is needed)
  • Freshmen are guaranteed $5,500 in federal aid ($6,500 for sophomores, and $7,500 for upper class men) at University Park
  • PSU Admissions looks mainly at student grades not by high school ***BUT students applying to Schreyers Honor College will be looked at with high school classes
  • The expected family contribution is main source when determining financial aid
  • Each academic college has scholarships and there are plenty of outside scholarships

***(student should spend one hour a week applying for scholarships until student graduates college)

  • Schreyers Honor students need 3.4 GPA to write thesis and graduate
  • Penn State does not look at school profile as part of admission process
  • PSU admits students to specific colleges not just to the university
  • Applications will be on both common app and my coalition next school year
