Over the course of six months, the Community Connections team at Bridges Niagara has been hosting a variety of art workshops led by local artists, for newcomer women, based around exploring the theme of immigration.
In May of 2026, we got to display the collected works at the Niagara Artists Centre in St Catharines. This website gives you a virtual tour of the gallery and background information on the process of each piece.
The purpose of these workshops were to empower women and female-identifying newcomers to share their personal, cultural, and intergenerational narratives.
We hope that this lovely gallery not only inspires you creatively but also strengthens relationships and mutual understanding between newcomer women and the broader Niagara community.
The Women With Wings Project aims to amplify underrepresented voices, empower participants and foster connection and understanding.
These art sessions create a platform for female-identifying newcomers to define and share their stories that are often overlooked.
Sharing these stories and art works promotes deeper understanding of migration experiences beyond headlines or stereotypes.
Lastly, the process of creating the art pieces empower the participants to express themselves through creative storytelling and supports healing through shared experiences.

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, we held the opening reception for this gallery at the Niagara Artists Centre (NAC) in St. Catharines. The NAC team curated the pieces beautifully, creating a space where visitors could thoughtfully observe and interact with each work. Participants, artist facilitators, and community members came together to celebrate this project and share the art created by our clients, helping to amplify their voices.
While the opening reception was incredibly special, the true heart of Women With Wings project lies in the process behind each piece. Throughout each session, participants were given a platform to express themselves in new and meaningful ways. We invite you to click on each tab of this website to explore the stories, creativity, and process behind every piece.
Women from these 36 countries were involved in this project!
