Assessment
Target Setting
The Department for Education expects that all students make progress during their time in secondary education. At the end of KS2, students sit tests in reading, grammar and Mathematics. Students are given a score ranging from 80 to 120. Targets for GCSEs are set based on the scoring.
Assessments:
Our assessments are designed to ensure students are making rapid and sustained progress. We have 2 main forms of medium and long-term assessments.
Planned Pieces:
Throughout every topic, we have “Planned Pieces” which are regular and routine. They are designed to identify gaps in knowledge and address misconceptions. They also allow students to respond to feedback and make progress, which is catered for their individual needs. These Planned Pieces are in “Bands” which allows teachers and students to track progress.
CAFs:
All KS3 students (Year 7-9) will complete Common Assessments once a year for EBACC subjects. These assessments are trust-wide and allow teachers to track progress; but also, importantly, identify gaps in knowledge and misconceptions. These can then be addressed in lessons in order to ensure that the foundations are set for next year/stage in school. Once the CAFs have been completed, students will receive a grade.
Mocks:
In KS4 (Year 10 & Year 11), students sit mocks based on GCSE assessments. In Year 10, students will complete Bronze mocks; in Year 11, students will complete the Silver and Gold mocks. These mocks, like all of our assessments, are used to identify gaps in knowledge and misconceptions. These can then be addressed to ensure our students make maximum progress. Students will receive a GCSE grade once these have been completed; however, this does not necessarily mean that grade is the grade they will achieve in GCSEs. Mocks indicate where students are at that moment in their curriculum journey for that subject.
