Students were tasked to utilize a grade-level reading to analyze significant differences in the daily lives of Athenians and Spartans in Ancient Greece. Using the knowledge gathered from the reading, students were tasked to prompt Gemini to create a PIXTON with the information they found to compare one of the major differences in a characteristics between Athenians and Spartans. Students practiced prompt writing and the revision process to ensure accuracy to meet task expectations. Once Gemini provided students with a PIXTON they approved of, they utilized NotebookLM's studio to turn that PIXTON into an informative video. Below are the products of student work utilizing two AI tools, Gemini and NotebookLM.
This lesson provided an opportunity for sixth-grade students to practice digital literacy and safey, harnassing the power of AI tools for support, not plagiarism. Students utilized a teacher model and whole-class/1:1 guidance to navigate both Gemini and NotebookLM. Students were also provided exploratory time to independently analyze the myriad of tools both these tools have to offer.
