First Grade Investigated the question “How can you see sound?”
Students used a cup, string and plastic wrap to make a drum. They sprinkled sand on the drum and then hummed loudly and hummed softly near the surface. They discovered that when they hum loudly sounds moves quicker and when they hum softly sound moves slower.
