Mr. Riggs is a Professional School Counselor and a certified teacher with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University and Master's & Ed.S degrees in School Counseling (K-12) from the University of the Cumberlands.

The Ben Johnson Elementary Counseling office is located at the back of the front office and is always open to you. The counseling office offers resources for students, parents and staff. In addition to group and individual meetings, the counseling office presents classroom guidance activities, consultation with parents, teachers and outside professionals, and program development. Small groups are developed to address the needs of the students and can include topics such as friendships/getting along with others, family changes/divorce, transition, etc. Classroom sessions provide a forum for developmental lessons. Guidance sessions can included such topics as peer relations, problem solving, character development, bullying, etc.
