Parent Programs

Parents are a very important part of our library community at Branksome Hall Asia.  We welcome parent volunteers to help out in the library and have offered Parent Book and Writing Clubs.  We also provide parent workshops on a number of different topics.  Parents are welcome to open their own library accounts so they can enjoy reading as well as borrow additional resources for their children.

Volunteering

We welcome parent volunteers called Friends of the Library (FOL)  to help run the circulation desk during the school day and provide support for our library events like Hangul Day, Harry Potter evenings, Chinese language and Literature day, Book Week and other events throughout the school year.

Please contact library@branksome.asia for more information.

Due to COVID we have had to suspend our Parent Book and Writing Clubs at the current time.

Parent Book Club

The BHA Library invites you to join The BHA Parent & Community Book Club. It is open to any reader who loves reading.  Each month we will select a book that is available in English, Korean and Chinese. Discussion will be in English. Readers are responsible for the purchase of their own copy.  We will meet monthly on a Thursday morning in the Writing Centre.

Parent Writing Club

Branksome Hall Asia has started a Writing Club for BHA parents with a local author. This writing club is designed to bring parents together and strengthen a sense of community by discovering your own stories.  The course will be taught in English but writing can be in English or another language you are comfortable with. The club will be held once per month on a Wednesday morning at 9:30am-11:00am in the Library Writing Centre

Our author facilitator is Brenda Paik Sunoo, who with a Masters of Arts in Creative Writing, has over 10 years’ experience as a news editor with the Korean Times and Workforce Magazine. Her first book Seaweed and Shamans in 2007 was followed by the publication of Vietnam Moment (in 2009), Mood Tides: Jeju Island Grannies of the Sea (in 2011) and Stone House on Jeju Island in 2018 which is about her own story of settling down and building a stone house in Jeju.

As a thank you for the valuable work and support that our volunteers provide, we arranged a thank you brunch in December.
