Guidance services at Stony Brook include social-emotional classroom lessons, individual counseling, and counseling groups that focus on various topics.
Classroom guidance lessons occur approximately once per month and focus on specific character education or social-emotional learning topic.
Student will work with school counselor on a short-term, as needed basis to establish individual goals relevant to the presenting concern.
Stony Brook counseling groups provide a supportive space for students to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences about specific topics with their peers. Topics include social skills, mindfulness, healthy friendships, and self-esteem. Parental/caregiver permission is required.
Stony Brook students have been working hard and learning different ways to foster the Stony Brook promise of respecting ourselves, others, and our school.
Social Emotional Learning - month by month:
In September, Huskies participated in the nationwide Start With Hello initiative that focused on including and inviting friends who need a friend.
In October, we celebrated the Week of Respect! Students learned about the importance of self-respect and created a self-portrait that highlighted their abilities, strengths, and interests!
Stay tuned for next month's news!
