The Education and Skills Team are continuing to offer support to schools which would like to receive services in Careers Guidance or mentoring to students during the Covid -19 period (despite reduced contact and school closure).
We want to do everything we can to ensure the aspirations and ambitions of all our young people remain high during these unprecedented and challenging times. Students, teachers and parents and carers can contact their link careers adviser by phone, email or Skype for specific help with issues ranging from career choice, exam grades, progression from Year 11 and Year 13; college and university entry, apprenticeships and training opportunities; and help with CVs, preparing for on line interviews and making decisions on next steps.
Schools can request our advisers contact individuals or a particular group of students and their parents or carers who need careers support when internal sources of help have been made difficult. Our virtual delivery platform will soon be signposting users to careers resources, websites, podcasts and webinars. Additionally our traded service team can provide interactive sessions on the following
· Making good career choices and taking the right next steps towards education, employment and training
· Choosing between sixth forms and colleges
· Why go to university?
· Are Apprenticeships worthwhile?
· Workshops on professions and other occupations
· Job search, CV and interview skills
· Mentoring and Counselling

Training programmes for NEET young people to start in August 2020
1. INTRODUCTION
Routes into Construction is a 6-8 week programme designed to prepare young people for work or further education through training coupled with work experience in the construction industry..
2. WHO IS THE TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR?
You are illegible to join the course if you are between 16 and 24 years and not in Full Time Employment, other Full-Time training or Apprenticeship. You will also need to demonstrate an interest in Construction/engineering.
3. WHAT IS TAUGHT ON THE TRAINING PROGRAMME?
Construction Health & Safety. Personal development skills for successful employment. CV writing and interview skills. Work placement with a Construction company. If you are a School Leaver under 18 you may find that a Full-Time course at Further Education college better suited to your needs.
4. WHERE DOES TRAINING TAKES PLACE?
Training is delivered by industry professionals in training rooms based at a local Community Centre and coupled with training gained on Work Placement with an employer. Our next training course is planned to be based at Canada Villas Young Persons Centre in Mill Hill.
5. WHAT ARE THE HOURS OF ATTENDANCE?
The hours of attendance will be 10-2pm for 2-3 days for training based at the Community Centre. Work Placement will be 2 days per week during the program or an equivalent time at the end of the training and attendance times will be agreed in advance with the specific employer.
6. WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL I GAIN?
Anyone wishing to be employed on a Construction site must hold a CSCS card. As part of the training you will be entered for the Health and Safety and Environmental exam and if successful will be able to apply for the CSCS card.
7. WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE PROGRAMME?
At the end of the training programme you will continue to receive support from the Routes into Construction team to enable to obtain suitable sustained employment and or training.
