OCTOBER 2019

Reading

We are working on building our stamina for reading to self. The goal is to be able to sustain reading for up to 20 minutes. The following comprehension strategies have been taught and we will continue to practice them as the year progresses:

  • 3 ways to read a book (read the pictures, read the words, retell the story)
  • check for understanding
  • identify author's purpose using text evidence
  • identify and use text features
  • visualizing

Math

The following modules in Unit 1 have been completed:

  • Module 1: Community Building & Addition Facts to Twenty
  • Module 2: Subtraction Facts to Twenty

Module 3 launched the week of September 30th. This module covers double-digit addition.

Writing

  • Review of paragraphs
  • Writing informative paragraphs

Science/Social Studies

Our first social studies unit on the Wampanoag people will launch the week of September 9th.

PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies)

We are currently in Unit 2 which includes the following topics:

  • Self Control: Control Signals
  • Self Control: Solving Problems in Groups
  • Self Control: Thinking Ahead
  • Problem-Solving Meeting
