PATHS®

The PATHS® (Promoting Alternative Thinking Skills) program is grounded in social and emotional learning (SEL).

SEL helps children resolve conflicts peacefully, handle emotions positively, empathize, and make responsible decisions.

When students learn and use SEL skills, behavior improves and disruptions lessen.

Instead of wasting valuable classroom time managing misbehavior and providing discipline, teachers can teach and students can learn.

The PATHS Program has children learn about self control and problem solving with "turtle" and it transfers to "control signal" as they get older.

Learning to identify and label feelings is critical to learning self-awareness, control, and social/emotional development.

We learn about feelings through the PATHS Program at DiPietro Elementary.

(See the feelings wheels below to help your child discuss emotions.)

Here are some things that DiPietro Elementary students are doing as part of the PATHS Program.

We have weekly lessons to learn about feelings, self-control and being kind to others.

We have a PATHS kid of the day for each classroom to act as the helper of the class. The PATHS kid gets to wear a PATHS badge for the day. All students get turns being the PATHS kid!

We take time to give each other compliments and we compliment ourselves! This happens sometimes in group conversations and other times we write notes to each other.
