Mrs. Rachel Uffelmann
Rachel Uffelmann is the 5th and 6th grade orchestra teacher in Batavia and works at all 6 elementary schools and the middle school so she keeps busy! Mrs. Uffelmann has taught 5th grade orchestra in Batavia for 15 years and has started out many students on string instruments!
Mrs. Uffelmann grew up in Michigan and attended Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI where she earned her bachelors in Music Education. Mrs. Uffelmann earned a scholarship for violin and while at Grand Valley, she played in the symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra and other groups. Mrs. Uffelmann learned viola while there and played in a string quartet for several years with other music students and traveled playing gigs and weddings. Upon graduation from Grand Valley, she taught orchestra for one year in Michigan before moving to Illinois in 2004. Mrs. Uffelmann completed her master's degree in music education from Northern Illinois University in 2016 and continues to take classes through Vandercook College of Music.
Mrs. Uffelmann has been married to her husband Brad for five years. They met in their community orchestra they play in (Mr. Uffelmann plays the clarinet) and they are huge music people! Mrs. Uffelmann plays viola in the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra, West Suburban Chamber Orchestra, Salt Creek Sinfonietta and sometimes the Northwest Symphony Orchestra. She definitely enjoys playing her viola!
In her free time, Mrs. Uffelmann enjoys playing her viola, reading (she LOVES to read), taking zumba classes, walking and hanging out with friends. She and Mr. Uffelmann love to travel and see new places! One of her favorite places to go is Disney and they have been several times! Her favorite characters are Tigger and Groot. She hopes to travel to Germany and Austria one day. She is also a crazy cat lady!! She and Mr. Uffelmann have 5 cats so there is always something crazy running around!
