FAQ

Where can I find information on the district's COVID-19 procedures?

How can my child get breakfast & lunch?

  • FREE meals are served to in-person students at school, although often in modified environments. During site or district-wide Distance Learning, we also provide bus stop delivery of school meals on bus routes to ANYONE ages 1-18.

  • Eligible parents are urged to apply for free-or-reduced meals, even with districtwide free meals and even if your student is enrolled in virtual school or brings a sack lunch. This application provides critical funding to our school district for multiple federal programs. Our free and reduced percentages allowed the Child Nutrition department to be able to serve over 1,000,000 meals since March 2020.

What is school like in 2020-2021?

  • See the district's pandemic procedures.

  • We have invested heavily in technology and teacher training to help provide support during any Distance Learning periods. Every student now has access to a Chromebook. We also have a limited supply of cellular hotspots for families who for some reason cannot take advantage of the low-cost home internet options.

What about student activities, including athletics and band?

  • The district will continue to draw upon expert advice and guidelines for safe play from state and national organizations and observe Frontier Valley Conference guidelines. When the district is in the Orange 1, Orange 2, or Red Alert Levels, face coverings are required for participants, coaches, workers, officials, patrons, and anyone entering a district facility. Face coverings are encouraged but not required of participants, officials, and coaches inside a playing field. Some seating will be unavailable to support physical distancing.

Will my student get a Chromebook or internet hotspot?

  • Every student is able to use a district Chromebook to support Distance Learning. Elementary school classroom devices are issued for any extended Distance Learning periods, while middle and high school students are expected to transport their device to and from school each day.

  • We urge ALL families to have wired home internet service. Check out the low-cost home internet options since hotspots have significant bandwidth and filtering limitations. We have over 500 cellular hotspots for families who simply can't take advantage of the low-cost home internet options. See the Connected Bruins page for details.

Will there be grades and attendance for distance learning?

  • Grading and attendance continue throughout any Distance Learning intervals. Attendance during Distance Learning will be based on the completion rate of weekly learning plans. For example, if 80% of a learning plan were completed, the student would be counted as present 4 out of the 5 days that week.

My child is on an IEP, 504, or other related services. Will they still receive accommodations and services?

  • Your child’s special education teacher will remain in contact during school sessions.
