Engaging students in goal setting promotes self-efficacy and empowers them in their learning journey. We enhance our collective efficacy when all staff, both core and encore subjects, support students in this process. This page contains resources for beginning, middle, and end of year goal setting.
Goal setting is more than wish making. It involves thoughtful planning, ongoing reflection/revision, and specific feedback from supportive adults.
Feedback Tips
Use these resources to facilitate data talks and student goal setting following the beginning of year assessments.
For use with grades 3-5; also includes reflection page to revisit and reflect on progress of the goal
For use with grades 6-8; also includes reflection page to revisit and reflect on progress of the goal
Following the mid-year assessments, we will dedicate additional time to data analysis and student goal setting. In grades 3-8, teachers will display/review Class Reports (without student names) and distribute/review individual student reports. Students should also revisit or revise goals set in the Fall using the last page of the Goal Setting Guides.
Mid-year assessments provide an opportunity to review growth and achievement data at the class and student level. The Data Reflection Guide will support you in grouping students and planning responsively. The resources below are designed to help facilitate student goal setting.
It's time to celebrate! Reserve a day at the end of the school year to review Spring MAP results with your students. Use the Student Reflection Template to guide student analysis of growth and achievement. Revisit progress on meeting goals that were set earlier in the year.
