Want to make sure you’re ready for the day of school? Looking for a tool that will help you reflect on how your relationships with students, physical environment, norms and routines? This checklist addresses all of those in one concise page!
This short-and-sweet checklist can help you focus on the most important things at the beginning of the year and throughout the school year. Hang it up by your desk and use it!
At the beginning of the year, use this checklist twice a day to make sure you are getting off on the right start with your students.
Use it at the beginning of the day to make sure everything is prepared and to remind yourself of the steps that will help you build relationships with individual students and build a learning community.
Use it at the end of the day to reflect on how the day went.
Set a clear goal for yourself to improve your learning environment. What do you want to specifically work on? Maybe you’re doing well with individual relationships, but need to remember to use routines and norms more consistently.
Use this checklist with anyone who comes to observe! Get help from other teachers or let your admin know what you’re working on. (Check in with a veteran teacher about how to best ask admin if you’re feeling unsure.)
Involve students, especially older ones. For example, ask students if they think you are giving clear enough directions.
