Honors Algebra I

Course Description

Grade: 9

Credits: 1.0

Prerequisite: None

Course Code: 03100500

Course Number: H012

Students will continue to build on their knowledge and skills in mathematics to provide a foundation in linear relationships, numbers and operations, and proportionality. They will study linear, quadratic, and exponential functions and their related transformations, equations, and associated solutions, and they will connect functions and their associated solutions in both mathematical and real-world situations. Students will use technology to collect and explore data and analyze statistical relationships. In addition, students will study polynomials of degrees one and two, radical expressions, sequences, and laws of exponents, will generate and solve linear systems with two equations and two variables, and will create new functions through transformations. Due to the increased rigor of the honors course, there will be an emphasis on the development of critical thinking skills, deriving geometric proofs, spatial reasoning, and transformations.  This course will require a STAAR End Of Course exam for graduation. This course offers 5% additional weight in the GPA calculation.
